Abraham, Esther and Jerry Hicks
The basis of your life is freedom;  The purpose of your life is Joy.
Esther Hicks (born Ester Weaver) is an American inspirational speaker and best-selling author.  She has co-
authored over nine books with her husband Jerry Hicks,  presents workshops on the Law of Attraction and
appeared in the first release of the film
The Secret.  The Hicks' books, including the best-selling series The Law of
, are — according to Esther Hicks — "translated from a group of non-physical entities called Abraham
(Hicks describes what she is doing as tapping into "infinite intelligence").

Partner, lover, bus driver, satellite up-and-downloader, laptop toter, agenda manager, fun and games co-
conspirator, and, in her spare time, gifted conduit to infinite intelligence!

Born 1948 in Coalville, Utah, a small Rocky Mountain town, Esther "never really thought about things too deeply,"
content simply to watch the world go by and naturally inclined to appreciate it.

In 1980, she married her current husband, a successful Amway distributor, Jerry Hicks. She has one daughter,
Tracy, by her former marriage.

Esther and Jerry, the man she describes as "the world's most intense question-asker," and began to meditate daily.
After about nine months, summoned by Jerry's inquisitiveness and Esther's receptivity, Abraham came knocking on
her consciousness.

Esther muses, "I've never met a person who wanted to know more than Jerry. After these 20-odd years he still has
questions for Abraham."

Jerry Hicks - Jerry's life reads like a celebrity bio: circus performer, juggler, boxer, singer, gymnast, radio show
host, comedian, millionaire entrepreneur. In his words, "Every dream I've had—every dream since I was a little boy—
they've all come true."

Jerry has journeyed from being so sick as a child that he overheard his doctor tell his mother, "I don't think the kid is
gonna make it through the winter," to an adult who enjoys almost perfect health and vitality. Today, the spring in
Jerry's step rivals that of men half his age.

As a child, Jerry lived in such poverty that, he says a bit sheepishly, "My mother once resorted to cutting the
neighbor's fence and letting the cows wander in so she could get milk for my little brother." Yet, by the time he met
Esther, Jerry had built a multi-million-dollar business operation engaging over 100,000 people. His success
springboarded almost entirely from a chance reading of Napoleon Hill's Think and Grow Rich. Jerry confides, "I was
never much interested in money. I was more interested in having a wonderful life . . . and being free."

From a series of negative, sometimes tumultuous, dead-end relationships, Jerry has evolved into the soulful
partnership he now enjoys with Esther, which he describes as "Spectacular!" and adds, "Esther is the most allowing
person I've ever met."

Teachings of Abraham
Esther Hicks says that non-physical entities called Abraham speak through her, and that her teachings (referred to
as Abraham–Hicks teachings) are based on this experience. The basic tenets of the teachings include that we
create our own reality through our thoughts, that our emotions are constantly guiding us toward where we want to
go, and that life is supposed to be fun. The essence of Abraham–Hicks' teachings since 1986 has been presented
as follows:

1.You are a physical extension of that which is non-physical.
All-That-Is, or that which you call God, is not finished and waiting for you to catch up. You are the leading edge of
thought, here seeking more: more of all that feels good to you, more of that which is fresh and gloriously uplifting.
(You are, in essence, bringing heaven to earth.)

2.You are here in this body because you chose to be here.
You chose the opportunity to experience this delicious contrast in time and space, and with great anticipation you
came to co-create with other joy-seeking Beings, to fine-tune the process of deliberate thought. (What, where,
when and with whom you create are your choices, too.)

3.The basis of your life is freedom; the purpose of your life is joy.
You are free to choose to discover new avenues for your joy. In your joy you will grow; and in your growth you add
to the expansion of All-That-Is. (However, you are also free to choose bondage or pain...but everything anyone
chooses is only because they believe it will help them feel better.)

4.You are a creator; you create with your every thought.
By the Universal Law of Attraction, you are attracting the essence of whatever you are choosing to give your
attention to — whether wanted or unwanted. And so, you often create by default. But you can know by how your
emotion feels if what you are attracting (creating) is what you are wanting or if it is not what you are wanting.
(Where is your attention focused?)

5.Anything that you can imagine is yours to be or do or have.
As you ask yourself why you want it, the essence of your desire is activated, and the Universe begins to bring it to
you. The more intense your positive feelings, the faster it is coming to you. (It is as easy to create a castle as a

6.You are choosing your thoughts, your emotions are guiding you.
Your loving Inner Being offers guidance in the form of emotion. Entertain a wanted or unwanted thought, and you
feel a wanted or unwanted emotion. Choose to change the thought and you have changed the emotion — and you
have changed the creation. (Make more choices in every day.)

7.The Universe adores you, for it knows your broadest intentions.
You have chosen to come to earth with great intentions, and the Universe constantly guides you on your chosen
path. When you are feeling good, you are, in that moment, allowing more of that which you have intended from your
broader perspective. (You are Spirit Incarnate.)

8.Relax into your natural well-being. All is well. (Really it is!)
The essence of all that you appreciate is constantly flowing into your reality. As you find more things to appreciate,
your state of appreciation opens more avenues to more for which to feel appreciation. (As you think, you vibrate. As
you vibrate, you attract.)

9.You are a creator of thoughtways on your unique path of joy.
No one can limit where you can direct your thought. There are no limits to your joyous journeys to experience. On
the path to your happiness you will discover all that you want to be or do, or have. (Allowing others their
experiences allows you yours.)

10.Actions to be taken and possessions to be exchanged are. .
You need not attract illness or pain as an excuse to leave your body. Your natural state — coming, remaining or
leaving — is that of health and Well-Being. (You are free to choose otherwise.)

11.You may appropriately depart your body without illness or pain.
You need not attract illness or pain as an excuse to leave your body. Your natural state — coming, remaining or
leaving — is that of health and Well-Being. (You are free to choose otherwise.)

12.You cannot die; you are everlasting life.
In grace, you may choose to relax and allow your gentle transition back into your Non-physical state of pure,
positive Energy. Your natural state is that of Foreverness. (Have fun with all of this! You can’t get it wrong, and you’
ll never get it done.)

P.S. It is not necessary for even one other person to understand the Laws of the Universe or the processes that we
are offering here in order for you to have a wonderful, happy, productive Life Experience — for you are the
attractor of your experience. Just you!

A large part of their work centers around the Law of Attraction, a concept written about in the early 1900s by William
Walker Atkinson (1862–1932) in many of his books, including
Thought Vibration or the Law of Attraction in the
Thought World

The Secret (the film by Rhonda Byrne)
Esther Hicks was a narrator and star of the original version of the film
The Secret. Hicks earned over $500,000 for
her work and was a central source of the film's inspiration. She was the only person to appear in the film who
received compensation.

The footage featuring Hicks
was removed from the later "Extended Edition" after the film's creator Rhonda Byrne,
who has been involved in contractual disputes and litigation regarding the film, asked to rescind the original
contract covering Hicks' participation, leading Hicks to withdraw completely from the project. The conflict is reported
as being primarily about intellectual property rights and money. According to an article in the New York Post, Hicks
claims she did not receive a fair share of the film's profits; however, in an open letter posted on the internet, Hicks

Financially speaking, we have been very well paid for our participation with this project… which has amounted to a
staggering amount of money. And if money were the most important factor, we assure you, we would have found
some way of staying involved.

Abraham–Hicks Publications has subsequently posted a video on YouTube which explains Hicks' decision to
discontinue her involvement with The Secret.

The Esther and Jerry Hicks Ommission Explained

By Cathy Lane March 9, 2007

Esther and Jerry Hicks have been omitted from the official list of Secret Teachers. This has been met by a great deal of disappoint by avid
Secret fans because of the powerful message Esther delivered in the full length original version of the inspirational movie. Many of you have
been left asking WHY?. . .

I have received numerous amounts of feedback in a short space of time concerning this issue and want to clear it up with you. I’ll share their
story along the way.  Esther and Jerry Hicks have been teaching the Law of Attraction through the teachings of Abraham for over 20 years
(since 1986 in fact).

They featured in the original version of
The Secret but were subsequently omitted due to problems with the contract. I’ve been researching and
surfing forums to find out why and this is what I’ve found out:  I’ll let Jerry and Esther explain what happened:

The Concept
Nearly two years ago, while on-board our Mexican Riviera Cruise, Prime Time Productions did an interview with Jerry and me, and with Abraham,
in response to an agreement that we had all carefully crafted together for a television show that was to be aired in Australia called
“The Secret.”
We were told that “The Secret” would be based on our work and that they would seek out other teachers who were in alignment with our work.
We reviewed, on DVD, two other projects that had been created by this production company and found them to be beautifully done, and good-
feeling pieces.

Their Strides into the Public Domain
Since Jerry and I had never before stepped into the public forum in that way with our Abraham work, we followed the advice of our publisher, who
introduced us to an intellectual property rights attorney who assisted us in drafting the agreement which would guide our involvement with this

He explained to us that although he had included in the intellectual property rights license agreement that we were to receive a small percentage
of the net profit from this project, and 10% of direct video sales, that it was very unlikely that (from his experience) we would receive any
substantial compensation from our participation, and we were not unhappy with that arrangement.

Our decision to do it was not motivated from the idea of making money from it, (unless there was profit to share) but because we were stimulated
by the excitement of this beautiful producer, and when we met her and her beautiful crew, we easily loved them all.

Delay in Airing
As time went by, it became apparent that the television network that we had been told would air “The Secret” was not going to do it, at least not
right now, and so the production company began seeking other ways of marketing their beautiful project to recoup their very large investment.
While Jerry and I were uncomfortable with what felt to us like a rather aggressive marketing campaign (just not our style, nothing wrong with it)
we stayed focused on our busy schedule and really had very little to do with what was happening with
“The Secret.”

The Omittance
Eventually we received an email from the producer of “The Secret” lovingly explaining (we never have received correspondence from her that
was anything other than extremely loving) that the contract that we had all agreed upon and signed was no longer sufficient for their further
distribution of the project in the areas they were now seeking to distribute the project, and that it would be necessary for us to relinquish our
intellectual property rights in these areas forever and redo our contract or they would have to reluctantly edit us out.

It was clear, from the lovingly written email that they did not want to edit us out, but after conferring with our publisher, and then our intellectual
property rights attorney, and finally with Abraham, allowing them to edit us out was the path of least resistance. Abraham’s words were very clear
and easy to understand: “Whenever you are given an ultimatum that says, ‘if you don’t do this, then we will have to do such and such,’ it is best
that you just let it go and move on. Otherwise there is always another, and this, and this, and this?”

The Backlash
Now, it seems there is quite a firestorm surrounding our dis-involvement with “The Secret”. We are receiving so many emails and letters and
face-to-face questions from disappointed people regarding this, so we want you to understand how we feel about it.

No Hard feelings
We think that “The Secret” clearly and beautifully presents Abraham’s Law of Attraction in a way that is easy to understand. It is filled with
stunning beauty and beautiful people, many of whom are our personal friends. We love the way
“The Secret” moves us, and we feel joy rise
within our hearts every time we watch it. We feel the power of it, and the clarity of it, and we love
“The Secret”.

After hours of digging I found this statement on an Abraham Hicks forum:

So. . .
Despite the omission Esther and Jerry are still enjoying the rapid expansion of the message of the teachings of Abraham and are happy to see it
more and more prevalent in the public eye.

I thought I’d share how the Abraham Teachings have been used to explain the Law of Attraction.
